Surrounded by subtle pressures
Softly whispering strange expectations
Striking me with sudden changes.
Sickening social sanctions
make my life bittersweet.
Because the shirt I wear isn’t acceptable
and my skirt isn’t of the correct length.
Even alone I sense the construct of the world
overwhelmingly suppressing my creativity
And by my lonesome, subconsciously decide to conform.
So instead of wearing what will make me pleased,
I choose the outfit that will please them.
And now my room is a mess.
